On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, RetourMatras officially took over the new disassembly technique for circular mattresses from Koninklijke Auping. This special milestone in the circular transition was celebrated at our location in Lelystad. You can find the photos on this webpage.
From waste to greater value
The recycling of discarded traditional mattresses prevents materials from ending up in incineration. While most of these materials can be reused, not all can, and the recycling process is intensive and costly. The real solution lies in the innovative design and production of mattresses. Only then can mattress recycling reach the level required for a fully circular future.
Circular mattresses make the difference: their materials can be fully reused as high-quality raw materials for new products, ensuring no loss of value.

Mattress-to-mattress recycling at scale
By transferring this innovative technology to RetourMatras, the disassembly process becomes accessible to the entire bedding industry. This marks a crucial step in scaling up mattress-to-mattress recycling, enabling circular mattresses to be disassembled on a large scale and their valuable raw materials to be re-used. This development not only creates a viable business model but is also essential to meeting national sustainability goals. Only with solutions where materials retain their value after use can we achieve a 50% reduction in the consumption of primary raw materials by 2030 and a fully circular economy by 2050.
